Why Bhopal is the new focus of OTT platforms' web series | Aradhye Axat

For starters, let me tell you that why I thought about this is , we watched a few series recently which were all set in Bhopal / Madhya Pradesh.

Human on Disney Plus Hotstar - my one-minute review is below for you:

Did you watch it; and if you did, what did you think? Stck.me doesn't have a comment section but you can comment on my YouTube channel.

Another was the Whistleblower on Sony, which is alright but a little bit of a drag. It could've been edited into a tighter story with some lesser melodrama. The issue they have addressed is excellent (PMT 'fixing').

Coming back to Bhopal, I read an article on India Today which gave me all the info I needed. Basically, a combination of post-pandemic shoots and government-backed financial sops led studios to the heart of India.

Dil Bekaraar, a rom-com based on Those Pricey Thakur Girls by Anuja Chauhan, also touched upon the Union Carbide Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

Here is what I thought of that web series, once again on Disney Plus HS:

Thanks to the December 2020 India Today article by Rahul Noronha, I now understand why Amazon shot Sherni there - to promote tourism.

There is a full power Film Tourism Policy 2020, and the website touts Stree (Rajkummar Rao) Pad Man (Akshay Kumar) Sui Dhaaga (Dhawan).

All these good tidings towards cinema and content production in India keep my hopes for a thespian life alive & kicking, albeit in the long-term.

Other movies that have benefitted from this policy are A Suitable Boy, Meemansa, Vidya Balan-starrer Sherni, Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Durgamati and Anupam Kher’s The Last Show. Web and OTT series' S2 include Kota Factory, Gullak, The Whistle Blower and Panchayat.
