Andor Episode 1 Live Review & Recap #Axat

Guess who's back? Back again? Star Wars is back. Tell a Jedi! I'm Axat.

The first episode of season 2 of Star Wars: Andor is One Year Later. Yes, literally named one year later, to make it clear to folk new to Star Wars that there was a season one. Talk about on-the-nose media marketing.

And away we go, like Rick says when he and Morty go off on adventures.

Four years before the Battle of Yavin is where we find ourselves. Foreshadowing is a TV Trope, and so is retconning. Imaginary galaxies with fake histories, like Dune and Foundation, but unlike my Android series. I foreshadow a green future on the red planet via the white satellite we know and love while living our lives on our plae blue dot, or blue marble. Space is colorful, but the Empire is not. It's quite stark. High contrasts. Thread-the-needle space-amphibious ship chases.

I say space-ambhibious because ships that fly in an atmosphere and outside it are a distant possibility. Speaking of flying ships, here is another example, as I have pointed out before, of some lazy naming or bowwowing of names. Cassian (of the Caspian Sea) Andor calls out for Porko - just a 'c' away from Hayao Miyazaki's Porco Rosso, the pig pilot.

If you have - and obviously you have - seen the Ghibli style memes - yes, it's Jibli with a 'j' sound, because the Japanese pronounce it 'jiburi' - so you know that nature is usually at odds with technology. Check out my Studio Ghibli videos for more about what I think about the great studio.

Lucasfilm is a great studio for world-building. They have resources, and the star power - pardon the pun - to attract acting stars. And there's fandom. I am glad we live in a time when information flow is instant.

Propaganda will only get you so far, says the strict lady from Season One. I don't know how far that is true. But let's stay light in the face of darkness, and move ahead in our shared imaginary world. Politics is bad. The pursuit of power instead of the pursuit of happiness divides us.

And that's where the first episode ends. Catch you riding the vibes of the Force in my second episode review, till then, may the Force be with you!
