Hello, my fellow Marvelers, I am Axat the Marveler, and I have been watching and loving the MCU since it began - with Iron Man. Black Sabbath's iconic song aside, I can't wait to see Robert Downey Junior's turn as Doctor Doom. Without further ado, let's get into Daredevil 2 - or as it has been imaginatively and conceptually under-titled, Born Again.
The season has been up and down, but alright on the whole, and let's see if this season finale can deliver a good closing after Daredevil was shot by Bullseye because he jumped in front of Kingpin to save him.
This episode starts with a flashback to a year ago from the event - the Black and White Ball hosted by Mayor and Mrs. Fisk. The name of the event reminds me of Breaking Bad's Gray Matter, which combined the colors in the names of the two founders - Schwartz [German] and White.
Black and white are not the colors of this series, no matter how white a suit Kingpin wears to hide his black market activities. Red is worn by Vanessa Fisk, reflecting the Daredevil motif. New York City's real-world daily grind intercuts show beer two times - I had not seen those before.
Power plays by Kingpin are playing a key role in moving along the plot.
Enter The Punisher. It's good to see him in the comic character look, all clean shaven, hair cropped close in his ex-military style, ready to kill "bad people" with his brand of extreme prejudice - very black and white.
Daredevil doesn't do that, of course, and they are picked up by Karen after leaping out of the way of the grenade that kills the killer of Hector Ayala, AKA White Tiger, who rests in peace - actor Kamar de los Reyes.
Another major character who bites the dust by getting his skull crushed by Kingpin's bare hands is Commissioner Gallo, who is also mentioned in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which aired its first season.
There is a very quick match cut of the New York City portside skyline. It turns from black to white in a millisecond, changing from a starry, starry night with the Milky Way slightly visible, to a white dawn.
"I Love New York" with a red heart representing love has become SO ubiquitous. In fact, it is there on the roundabout closest to my house.
It is also the state slogan of New York, the state as a whole, not just "City."
And so it ends - Kingpin in total control, with Daredevil urging people to rebuild from the ground up. In a mid-credits scene, The Punisher escapes from his cage. Sets up more Marvel. Keep 'em coming!
