The Acolyte Episode 5 Night

My Star Wars reviews of Episodes 1, 2, 3, & 4 are here [earlier chapters].

Hello my fellow Star Warriors, and welcome to my spoiler but informative review of Episode 5 of The Acolyte. May the Force be with you as we go through this prequel series, when the Jedi were numerous!

Right from the start we have 2 duels set up between equals - the smiley-face Sith Lord who may not even be a Jedi versus Master Sol who is defo a Jedi, and the Acolyte who may not turn out to be the actual Acolyte versus Jecki, the pupil and apple of Master Sol's eye. Who will win?

Meanwhile, the heroine is being escorted to the safety of the Jedi ship by the steaming character being shipped by Star Wars fandom, led by the male tracker rodent who had got the binary treatment from Osha.

I must say that there is much more impalement and dismemberment in this series than I have seen in Star Wars in general, which usually has broad, sweeping lightsaber fights and much less using the Force to kill.

Osha and Mae's father has not been identified explicitly yet, despite being mentioned by one of the mothers of the Force-sensitive twins.

Speaking of twins, the fights break up for a bit, resuming with Jecki versus the not-Jedi smiley-faced villain. Jecki pulls out her twin light saber just in the nick of time, while Mae tries to pull off an escape plan.

A moment to mention that the houses of my alma mater, the Lawrence School, Sanawar, in Himachal Pradesh, the best school and state of all, had the primary colors plus yellow. I was Himalaya, with the yellow flag.

The other three were mountain ranges too: Nilgiri, Vindhya, Shivalik.

Back in the Star Wars Extended Universe, the worst-kept secret in The Acolyte comes out - the smiley-stranger is the familiar face of Qimir.

Disappointing, but I guess the plot was laid bare as soon as one tugged on the thread that was this character. Far too convenient for the story.

Aaaand Yord is Dead. This fan favorite character could have been better utilized, but by now I guess the cat and Qimir is out of the bag and mask.

Finally, we get the classic twin switcheroo, with the twins interchanging places, but only according to the wishes of one of them - The Acolyte's.

So there are three more episodes remaining, and now with all the mask secrecy gone and a Freaky Friday but with twins happening, we can get more into the Jedi versus Sith origins that will lead into the main story.

The reveal of Qimir was slightly disappointing, no doubt, but you can't expect all your expectations for exceptional storytelling to be met all the time from every new show, you know? With that, goodbye, and stay safe.
